Founded in 1914, Fitch Ratings is a leading
provider of credit ratings, commentary,
and research. They offer global
perspectives shaped by strong local
market experience and credit market
expertise. Fitch Ratings was looking to
give users a way to access market ­based
content, ratings, research, and financial
data in a modern way. They turned to
Dom & Tom to concept, design, and
develop the first ever Fitch Ratings iPad
app.

Our Goal

The challenge put forth to Dom & Tom was to create an honest, intuitive, but highly functional iPad application that would cater to the thousands of Fitch Ratings subscribers in the financial field. Dom & Tom brought our best-in-class mobile user experience and mobile application expertise to create a highly performative, intuitive, robust, and customizable application experience.

The iPad app integrated with Fitch Wire, a credit commentary service providing credit opinions on a range of topics throughout the day. The iPad app gave online and offline access to ratings actions, headlines, in-depth research, and each user’s portfolio making it an invaluable tool for investors and analysts.

Our Plan & Process

The Dom & Tom team worked with the Fitch Solutions team to prototype the app and its features, test the iPad concept with early adopters and guide the Fitch Ratings team through prioritizing the features to make the app as successful as possible.

To ensure that the navigation of the application was as intuitive and easy to learn as possible, the Dom & Tom user experience team created app wireframes and mapped out precisely how the finished application should ideally function.

Building on the work of the user experience team, Dom & Tom’s user interface designers created a highly responsive UI for the iPad app that balanced the modern look of Apple’s mobile operating system with Fitch’s polished, classic aesthetic.

After completing the design process, the Dom & Tom mobile development team implemented the required features; including push notifications, asynchronous image loading, and offline viewing capabilities. Our development team worked closely with Fitch’s backend team to determine what they would need in the app as time progressed and provided a mapping for a future API.

The user experience team used InVision to design wireframes and develop the prototype for Fitch Ratings user tests. The mobile app team worked in Objective-C and XCode and upgraded the platform several times as Apple released updates to their iOS. Our mobile app team used best-in-class practices for digital product methodologies, including documentation, secure source-code repository management, code reviews, pull requests, sprint-based agile project management and secure mobile app deployment for key-stakeholder testing.

The Results

Dom & Tom successfully launched the Fitch Ratings iPad app putting the client’s famed insight right at the fingertips of their user community. The iPad app gave online and offline access to ratings actions, headlines, in-depth research, and each user’s portfolio making it an invaluable tool for investors and analysts.
