Our Client

https://www.dignityhealth.org/ is a leading not-for-profit healthcare corporation that aims to administer compassionate, affordable health care that accommodates a patient’s physical, mental, and spiritual needs. With their belief that ‘Every Patient Matters’, Dignity Health contacted digital technology experts, Dom & Tom, to create an innovative app that tracks the growth and development of babies and aims to answer any questions new and expecting parents may have.

The Goal

Dignity Health was in need of a user-friendly app that would reassure and inform parents of any questions that they may have before, during, and after the birth of their child at a Dignity Health hospital. The app would include features such as the ability to track pregnancy milestones, identify symptoms and concerns, and connect to services, like nurse support and follow-up care in order for parents to enjoy a healthier pregnancy. The app would also feature video tours, a feeding log, and a directory of doctors in their network so that they have the ability to track the child’s progress after the parents had brought their infants home from the hospital.

Our Plan & Process

The Dom & Tom team approached this project with the goal of finding a balance between a compassionate user-friendly experience, as well as be compliant with HIPAA privacy rules and other legal regulations. The team collaborated closely with the legal department at Dignity Health to approve all content and make sure patient data was encrypted beyond the standard levels expected by the hospital.

Legal planning was a cornerstone of how the team approached the project. Dedicating resources to creating a client-side data encryption system and presenting data only when accessed by recognized users, the Dom & Tom team developed to HIPAA compliance, while also allowing iOS and Android users to access data across devices and platforms.

The Results

Upon launching, the app was trialed with parents and doctors in the NICU unit of two Dignity Health hospitals. Following the positive feedback from users, the app was ultimately rolled out to expecting parents at 33 health care centers in the Dignity Health network.
